Ink Spilling Camp

ink spilling 2016 flyer_englishInk Spilling is a yearly summer writing camp that gives young writers (grades 7 through 12) a place to explore and celebrate writing. Campers will experience the power of their writing as they create and share work with mentor writers and teachers of writing from The Borderlands Writing Project and local community.

This year’s camp— Ink Spilling, STEAMily— marks an exciting adventure for BWP. With sponsorship from the NMSU English Department and a 2015 LRNG Innovators Challenge Grant, participants in the camp will also attend several workshops throughout the school year.

Workshops (exact dates TBD)
October 2016

March 2017
May 2017

Ink Spilling, STEAMily (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Young Writers Summer Camp and its affiliated school-year workshops are for students grades 7-12. The purpose of the camp and workshops is to increase students’ abilities to make connections between learning they encounter in school and out of school as well as the types of writing they do in school (across all subjects) and out of school. These opportunities will provide informal spaces in which students can learn new ways to approach projects they are already interested in. Summer camp activities— idea generating, writing across genres, performing, etc.— will culminate in projects that expand students’ understanding of writing for various subjects. Subsequent affiliated workshops will build from camp and progress students’ thinking related to their selected projects.

Students accepted for this summer camp and workshops will be eligible to receive a $200 stipend for their full participation in camp and subsequent workshops.
